It's built on the grounds of the old prison plantation where the State of Texas maintained de facto sugar plantation slavery for about 50-60 years following the end of the Civil War. They built an elementary school and uncovered a bunch of unmarked graves. I think that's why Sugar Land is in terminal decline. It's just not as sweet as it once was. |
