In fact at age 19 I went through a period of a few months where it was so strong it was almost paralyzing. I couldn't hardly do anything without being hyperconscious of myself doing it, watching myself, head-monologuing about it etc. It faded gradually through my 20s and I haven't had it in probably 10 years, except for that mushroom trip I did a couple years ago. I test at 145-150 IQ on recognized IQ tests. It's a social anxiety/comfort/confidence thing I think, not intelligence. Date: April 14th, 2021 3:35 PM Author: Balding resort sound barrier I never subvocalize thoughts unless I'm re-reading a sentence because it's dense, writing something, or preparing what I will say at a hearing. Other than that, I have abstract thoughts. That's what they are, just thoughts, but they contain enough to reason through things. I go through entire tests without hearing words in my head if they don't involve writing. Best I can describe how this works is the thoughts take the form of blips that are bundles of concepts, or bundles of those bundles. I have to spend time thinking about how to articulate these blips in plain language. It's probably part of why I suck at public speaking and why I cannot offer critical insights on the fly. But give me some time to play around with these thoughts and I'm okay. How autistic am I? |
