At what point do you kill your family dog?

Unfortunately, she has a collapsing trachea, which will progressively worsen until it suffocates her to death. Could be months, could be years. In the meantime, I can pay $5,000 for a tracheal surgery which could more or less “cure” the issue but even then she’s looking at maybe 5 years tops. I’m also Poor.
