There's not really an opportunity for people to prove themselves at work at all.
Like I look at our tech team, and I'm pretty sure we have coders making $150,000 who are exceptionally smart, and then business people who are fucking idiots making $600,000 - and there's never a chance for the coder to really step out and say "actually look at this - I'm way smarter than this person."
Instead the coder's success is really tied to how good the business person's ideas are becuase he's only successful if the products he works on is successful, but also, if the projects are successful than the business person will get promoted and not the coder.
