I am Poor, so those are probably the only options for new cars. I reflexively don’t like Kia because I associate it with shit, but maybe it’s better now. Advice?

Can't go wrong with the Pilot. Naturally aspirated V6. Decent looking. Less "luxury" than the Korean brands, but the Korean brands have their own issues (hence why they have insanely long warranties, but I'd rather pull teeth than have to work with their dealers.)

Pilot is more enjoyable to drive as well. Highlander is a great family vehicle, but is basically a pure appliance. Though you can get it in a hybrid.

nissan is struggling financially so you can get the closest thing to a steal on the pathfinder or if you're looking at luxury vehicles, the infiniti qx60 or qx80. I guess you have to take the risk that they won't be here in 3 years but they're desperate for sales.

Pathfinder at a discount is a good call. As much as Nissan has struggled, I think the talk of them completely going away is offbase. If anything, the Japanese government will force them into a merger and help make it happen.

Minivans are absolutely TCR and people who throw any stigma/shade toward them are insecure bitches. Nothing else offers the same space and utility in a package that can easily fit into a standard suburban parking space. No kids banging doors into neighboring cars. Captains chairs make loading so much easier and keep fights down.

Sienna is 180, btw

Form factor. Open the door and kids can make their way to seats, unlike with an SUV where you have to load them or move a seat forward so they can access the back row. This is way harder with car seats and multiple children. The slider doors are huge if you've ever had a kid open a door into a neighboring car. It has awesome storage and fits in my garage.

One thing I don't like is the hatch door for the trunk area. Our prior van sat 8 and I removed one of the center seats which was amazing for quick load/unload. Our new van doesn't allow for that which sucks. Keep in mind I have 4 kids with lots of activities and lots and lots of driving.

If you only occasionally use the third row, check out x7, GLE 450, Lexus GX, Audi Q7. But if you need a full time 3rd row prepare angus for a suburban or Escalade ESV. Which shouldn’t be a problem if you live in the burbs but which sucks ass if you live in a dense city.

I confess the only experience I had was a foreign exchange student from South Korea 20 years ago kept talking about how good Daewoos and Kias were but he’d also talk about my mom’s “twat” nonstop and got shipped back to Korea after sexually harassing a teacher so it left a poor taste in my mouth viz Korean autos.
