A lot of skilled players refuse to look goofy period, even if non-negligible chance of improvement. Or they don't want to be in a position where it's easy to cheat or accidentally cheat or just look cheating from using that abomination

Langer needed it because yips almost killed his career, Fred Couples needed it because his back was perpetually fucked up, and Vijay invented the belly putter because he's a cheating turdskin. |
