I am a hard, hard no. I rarely put my foot down on stuff like this but he wants our son to play peewee football and then hopefully real football and I'm not even willing to consider it.
It causes brain damage and is very TTT. Sports are prole.

your husband is well aware of the risks involved in letting your son play football. he is taking them into account in his decision
the closest thing to an abstract argument that you can understand that i can give you is that football is one of the best opportunities for a teenage boy to engage in and test himself in violence, in an environment that is actually overwhelmingly safe, despite the small chance of serious injury
it's important for him to learn his body's limits, how much force and how much violent damage he can do to others, and how much force and violent damage other men can do to him. it's important for him to learn how much of male status and interpersonal relations revolve around violence and the always-implied background threat of violence
these aren't things that you can understand because you are not male yourself. you are not capable of killing another human with your own body, nor are you in constant competition with other individuals who can kill you with their own bodies
football is an extremely safe environment for a boy to learn these things compared to other ways that he might try to explore them himself, on his own, without the guidance from adult men who are looking out for his safety
