Marty works part-time, just enough to rake in Seattle’s premium minimum wage without breaking a sweat. Today, while the rest of us were drowning in the after-school rush, he was casually restocking the gum aisle at a snail’s pace.
When I asked if he could pick up the pace, he said, “Friend, I’m maximizing my income by minimizing my output. Basic economics.”
Spent the rest of the shift explaining to Boomers that no, you can’t use coupons from 1987. Marty left on time, looking as fresh as when he came in.
Cleaned up spills, whispered, “Yes, friend. This is fine.”
