There’s social pressure to fast sure, like all the restaurants being closed during the day, but I assure you no one gives a shit if you ate at home. People do it because they want to, it’s a spiritual cleansing and again, done in conjunction with additional prayer and religious responsibilities.
It’s easy to laugh at corporate workers napping during the day and forget about the construction workers or the millions on the streets hawking their wares in the heat.
It’s easy to laugh about the shortened winter days and forget about the decade+ we fasted during the peak of summer, or about the Muslims in those climates where the sun sets at 10 pm.
