Given that we now live in a fascist dictatorship that is arresting, deporting and killing people like the nazis did, how can we use our unique skillsets and privileged positions of power to resist and fight back?
I was a poli sci major in college and I always told myself that if the US ever came to resemble something like 1930s Germany, I would NOT be one of those who simply did nothing.
I wanted to protest this weekend but there is a winter storm going on. I’ve thought of offering news stations an opportunity to have me on their programs to share my opinions on the course of the nation but I’m afraid that my firm won’t like that. I don’t want to donate money because I worked really hard for it and I deserve to keep it. Lastly, I’ve considered hiding illegal immigrants in my home but I think it would be uncomfortable living with them.
I ideally want to find a way to make a material impact for good that won’t harm my job security, exit options, finances, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing and personal comfort, while also showing people around me (and potential future employers) that I am a good person.
I know that we (v10) biglaw lawyers are the thin white line that holds back this country from descending into tyranny and I simply refuse to sit out the fight. Would appreciate any ideas — thank you!
