He busted ass giving speeches and appearances and garnering public support. He lost the election. He spoke at law schools and on the radio and really leaned hard on "democracy".

The TX judge ended up approving the ex's move to California. He spent many thousands of dollars participating in years-long litigation in California, fighting in the courts to the very end.

Probably gen-x, he grew up in West Texas and had some faith in America and its laws. He maxed out his civic participation.

Now, with the result in hand, its apparent all that faith was misplaced. He ought to have absconded with the children to a faraway place and lived as an outlaw. Failing that, he ought to have committed mass killings. (This second choice would not help his boys AT ALL and would likely completely annihilate their lives, even the "healthy" one, but it may have protected some future kid down the road).

But I can hardly blame him entirely for trusting that the America he grew up in for 40+ years was not, in fact, a lie, and that truth and justice would win the day.

Its clear now this was naive, but I do not think it was cowardly.
