One in particular stands out to me as especially heartwarming. This man, let’s call him Joe, had been on the decline for several days and you could tell he was nearing the end. It’s late at night, his family had stepped out to get a quick bite to eat, I’m in the room with him and he starts screaming aloud about how much despair he’s in and how he doesn’t want to die. Between sobs he begs for more life. He screams about how horrible it will be to experience the cessation of his existence. As he’s vomiting from sheer disgust and revulsion at the realization of the end of his life and his impotence to avert it, he dies.
