I didn’t like when Willard killed the Viet woman with the puppy for no reason

The surfing siege scene was nuts

Also Brando doesn’t even do anything. Every shot is him sitting around in the dark babbling or reading poetry

He was blackout drunk the whole time and eating massive amounts of dessert foods between shots. They had to prop him up and use body doubles because he couldn’t stand at times.

The Brando parts were the best. He wasn't supposed to be coherent, he was supposed to be psychotic and emotionally scarred. He pulls it off masterfully imo. A triumph

It makes complete sense. It’s about a god king losing his vitality and therefore he must be sacrificed and replaced by a new king.

You smell that? You smell that?

Blank bumps, son.

Nothing else in the world smells like that.

I love the smell of blank bumps in the morning.

One time we had a Johnsmeyer thread bumped for 12 hours.

When it was done, I scrolled up. Not one text bump.

That 180 smell, the whole thread.

Smells like... victory.

Some day this board is gonna end.

We train young tow truck drivers to drop fraudlies on people, but their commander$ won't allow them to write "diaper" on the chatbort because it's obscene!

Obviously a great movie but I've never met a Vietnam vet that likes it. It's basically fanfic to them. One guy told me Hamburger Hill was the closest.

I don't think apocalypse now was ever supposed to be an accurate depiction. It was inspired by Heart of Darkness, and was kind of a surrealist/absurdist interpretation of Vietnam. Like Kilgore introduced like the stereotypical hardass, but then he starts talking about surfing, and wants them to surf while bombs are falling. His famous monologue about napalm and how he ends it wistfully with "some day this wars gonna end."

Imo it was an exaggeration of the causes of war and horrors of war. It was never "this is how it actually went down, man."

I think it might be the actual scariest scene in a movie period, it just perfectly makes it seem like they are right out there all of the time and you can't quite see them
