UE5 is fairly high quality and increasingly modular. the unity engine and its *holds nose* asset market system caused an explosion of good ideas/amateur talent games to appear in the field, and that's generally how new ideas/genres/concepts come to market to begin with---triple A studios aren't developing new concepts these days. valve's source is still a venerable titan of the field and mapped down to its bones in such a way that even amateur devs can feel a good deal of mastery over it once they've started working with it. also afaik the fox engine is pretty expensive to license, more specialized/less freeform, and the japanese are much less giving with their tech base than many western companies are (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=5809361&forum_id=2\u0026mark_id=5310907",#49503959) |
