It is important to have clear expectations and communication around the expectations. For us it was a natural evolution that was kickstarted by having our first baby at the same time I was offered an expat gig. From that moment she never went back to work and it undeniably made it easier for me to be aggressive about work. Not too many years later it became clear if she returned to the workforce her income would barely reach 25% of what I was bringing home (and even worse now) the economics just wasn't there.
Some women will miss work. Some women feel the need to be generating wealth and assets of their own. In our case I do treat her well. Very well. Everything is comingled. Properties in both names.
Do suggest she find something to do outside the house and projects. In my wife's case it's exercise and fitness. Unfortunately her projects includes the rest of the family so our meals are the meals of health and fitness people rather than the search for umami. But I don't mind. It keeps her busy.
Also don't nitpick her spending. As long as she isn't unreasonably extravagant. We have cleaners and outsource stuff. I'm not having her scrubbing toilets just because she isn't working.
