lol buying a bond right now is literally gambling that the dollar wont lose 20% of its purchasing power before the bond matures. if inflation is higher than your coupon rate you are locking in a guaranteed loss. that is the opposite of safe.
also silver is "productive." it conducts electricity. industry literally cannot produce goods without it. by his definition buying oil is speculation because you hope to sell it to a refinery.
u are confusing "productive asset" with "financial derivative." buying physical materials that industry is desperate for is called procurement, not gambling.

*leans into mic* The high-tech future devices are all using more & more silver. That's why CHINA is hoarding it. It is the SPICE of space age civilization. AI datacenters need it--particularly for space concepts. China is hoarding it for their solar panel industry. It's used for many missile systems.
New Samsung batteries use ~1kg of Ag
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41560-020-0575-z
HJT (Heterojunction) solar panels use 22 mg/Watt
It has a very low recycle rate and just in time refined supply is being consumed more & more by industry. Prices were kept artificially low during peak globalism circle jerking to facilitate trade.

that 2020 paper was just the concept. samsung built the actual pilot line in 2023 and mass production starts in 2027.
they need that 1kg spec to make the battery stable.
we have been in a physical deficit for 7 years and inventories are down 800m ounces. the burn rate is higher than the mine rate

for decades the paper market kept silver cheap so western tech and defense could build stuff at low cost. it worked as long as nobody asked for the real metal.
the reason it’s popping now isn't some sudden realization. we just burned through the supply buffer. deficits for 5 years straight and the vaults finally hit zero last fall. Very similar to Biden emptying the strategic petroleum reserve, but in this case we can't drill fast enough to keep up with physical demand... ~5yrs to open a new silver mine and most silver is a byproduct of other mining. very low recycle rate (it is dissipative when used in industry unless you're going to painstakingly extract tiny amounts from e-waste, which nobody does and requires melting-down entire boards in acid, etc, since the silver is alloyed with other shit at that point)
plus china shut the door on exports. the gig is up because the physical metal is gone, so the paper pricing game stopped working.

You got my heart, you got my soul
You got the silver you got the gold
You got the diamonds, from the mine
Well that's all right
It'll buy some time

In undergrad, I sold notes to classmates. I would intentionally pick classes with the largest number of students in it just to sell notes
All the $$ got put into Paypal, which I then used to purchase silver watches on Ebay. I have tons of silver watches because of my scholarship
