Plenty of people actively manage their 401ks. If you felt there wasn't a good investment opportunity it's rational to hold cash. If a solvent company was liquidated for some reason all the profts that could have been issued as a dividend would be owed to the shareholders.
Choosing to invest in companies that reinvest profits isn't nad or even speculative. Every company reinveste at least a portion of their profits if they want to grow at all. Berkshire Hathaway, the posterchild for traditional, value investing, does not issue a divided. And I am happy for Warren Buffet to hold what could have been my divided to reinvest in other things. |
