My prediction is Dems will win house in '26 (as always expected), overreach and impeach Trump, which revives his support among the base. A gridlocked congress stimulates a growing economy in '27-'28. To preserve his legacy Trump goes to the stump for Vance in '28. Dems nominate either Kaki Harris or Newsom, who both bring enormous baggage with them, and Vance wins 51-49.

History is both unpredictable. And repetitive. The pattern of presidential victory --> lose house in midterms --> reelection/holds the WH is not unknown. Once you see voting patterns based on reaction and counter reaction both by voters themselves and the parties in office, there's a logic to it. It doesn't happen in every cycle, but often enough.
