Are the secular folx urban and educated and the fundies rural people or is it an ethnic or sectarian thing? or is it more based on phenotype or gen or console history?

good Q. i've been to iran and it seems that there arent clear divides. the seculars are generally urban and educated, but the ppl connected w the govt pretend to be fundies bc it's convenient.
there are also certain cities that seem to be more religious than others, in the same way that a big city like dallas is more conservative than a big city like sf, and it doesnt necessarily seem like its solely a rural vs urban thing.
it seems kind of like the US. you have a huge population with various ethnic groups spread over a huge land mass, and there arent necessarily general rules.
