Real talk: Now's the time to stock up on supplies. Be ready for potentially severe grid disruption. It's moving at 1246 km/s toward Earth and will probably arrive Thursday or Friday. Keep in mind that we have a weakened magnetic field, so under normal conditions, this would be more like an X12+ storm, which could cause grid failures. At X25+, we're talking about a global blackout/Carrington Event. |

https://www.spaceweather.gov/news/g1-g3-minor-strong-geomagnetic-storm-watches-issued-03-05-october is all that's out there for the moment. The coronagraphs appeared to show a fairly decently sized CME moving at a decent rate of speed. They're just not sure how bad it's gonna be, but it looks like we're not facing a G4 or G5 storm. G3 would be 180 as it'll mean a really good chance of seeing the aurora very far south (illinois, northern ohio, the northeast, etc.) |
