Hope he doesn't actually try to implement this

There are better levers to get the results he wants re: competitive manufacturing vs some of our trade partners anyway

According to chatGPT his actions on tariffs in 2016-2020 largely corresponded to what he actually did, however it did note that he ended up carving out lots of exceptions like e.g. he made an exception for small electronics after Tim Cook complained about the effect the tariffs would have on his margins.

Theyre 180 and I hope he goes hard on them. USA needs to turn inward and protectionist. Europe sucks. Africa sucks. The Middle East sucks. China sucks. South America is okay but still mostly sucks.

Massive tariffs on all imports.

USA needs to go it alone and leave the faggy world behind.

This is the kind of kneejerk "it sounds good on paper" type thing that makes me both afraid for and indifferent to the future of the country when I see people reflexively supporting it. Americans gain the lion's share of the benefits from many of these globalized trade policies; the issue we have as Americans and that I personally take as a Trumpmo is how these dividends are split up at home (the white working poor and the lower class, as always, get shafted)

There are much better ways to bolster domestic production and mfg competitiveness without potentially causing a globalized cascade of economic contraction. Tariff policies are one of the lesser stated reasons the European great powers got into WW1 btw. When wealth gets scarce, and nations feel that they're being wrongfully put over a barrel by the trade policies of others, relations between states break down and war often flares

There is no separation between globalized trade policies and the white working poor in America getting shafted. There is no 'policy fix' to that. It is the feature, along with cheap chinese plastic, of globalized trade, not some ill effect that can be ironed out with legislation.

Protectionism is far better for America. The rest of the world will suffer, and that's a good thing. They should suffer. Europe should suffer. Their nanny state governments should topple. America should turn inwards and forget these places. They suck and are owed nothing.

This would fly in the 20s-30s and I would agree with you then but the djinn is already out of the bottle on global trade and the now-necessary complexity of the logistical chains that allow us to have e.g. advanced technology and a plethora of foods at world-historical levels of affordability in every store across the nation

Even in dealing with China, the obvious foreign policy elephant in the room for the next century, neither us nor them could afford any real shocks in the trade relationship without seeing a bloodbath in both the markets and the CPI. My position on the matter for the last decade has always been gradual steps towards lessening our mutual interdependencies and weaning off of cheap Chinese mfg goods and resources but trying to do all of this stuff all at once and without any tact or realpolitik understanding of how we benefit bigly from the current post-war established paradigm of int'l trade will actually lead to an apocalyptic economic depression

They don’t care that globalism made us rich. They wanted to get rich, but not like this, not with uppity women and faggots and minorities no longer respecting them. They’d rather get much poorer if the status of the white working man is even partially restored relative to the rest. That’s basically all there is to it.

The white working poor don't have strong opinions on tariffs or economic policies with much specificity at all ime. They just know (rightfully) that they're getting bent over a barrel by int'l globocorps and D.C. politicians & lobbyists that are on the take while trading away peoples' means of living domestically for e.g. global political influence, GC schemes, and Wall Street's general tragedy of the commons ethos towards maximizing profits at the expense of economic sustainability and the general health of the American population

There are extremely credible arguments to be made (and that have been made) against the neo-liberal NAFTA type policies that basically traded away large chunks of our manufacturing base for more American political leverage within the hemisphere and penny wise pound foolish handouts to shareholders of some of these int'l companies that profited. Hopefully his team addresses these problems through that lens as opposed to the dumber portion of America First type policies. The AF platform is a mixture of very smart and very dumb policy proposals; hopefully he and his people can sift through it all and separate the good from the bad

fwiw I don't think the racial angle actually played much of a big part this cycle; this is something very prolific on the Internet but is not something people talk or express about much in reality. My view is that this election was won over two things prior elections were also frequently decided over: immigration and the economy (and while immigration as a political topic *can* have a strong racial angle to it, I don't consider it to be an issue primarily rooted in race)

we can close the border (we should) while also not breaking the global economy to prove a point that could be proven in a dozen other different ways

a lot of this stuff trump has promised, if he follows it to the letter, is actually just going to destroy the country and usher in jewish dominated economic neofeudalism

He was promoting it as a magic bullet on the campaign trail and as with much else to do with him it's not really Trump you have to worry about but his expendable advisors. I think realistically what might happen is that they dip their toes in and experiment with it a little bit but nothing major will happen so long as he has some sensible people with a good sense for & understanding of history around him

He occasionally did pants on head retarded stuff and then just blamed it on xyz staff member before firing them and while this is a strong strategy for him personally it's not necessarily a good one for the platform or the country

In contrast the entire US based fraud kike consumption economy depends on Chinese imports, without it literally the entire amerishit way of life wld be destroyed overnight. china trades more with ASEAN now than it does with the US. get ur head out of ur fat birdshit ass, get off the meth. china won and is the dominate party in this fraud relationship

I understand all of the traditional econ arguments as to why it's a bad idea and think they're probably right but I also kinda want to see what would happen if the world's superpower tilted heavily towards protectionism

Ultimately he will probably just use the tariffs as a threat to secure more favorable trade terms

No its not. It stokes a reorganization and retooling of manufacturing that causes massive investment. It gets biglaw type people busy as they "interpret the new rules" It gets midlaw and real estate and finance people busy.

Then some Dem comes in and unwinds it and everyone gets busy again in the reverse, stoking more money flow in a different direction.
