so the ny convictions will be valid and sentencing can just be deferred, in theory?

They’re done here, but not sure how.
Wonder if he’s gonna fire Jack Smith.

He can't pardon himself for them, but he can preempt them. This has been done a number of times when state prosecutors have tried to charge, e.g., federal agents for alleged crimes committed in the line of duty (idaho prosecutors tried to charge the ruby ridge sniper).
Between removal/preemption, immunity, stay, etc., if (1) libs stay motivated on this for another 4 years (I doubt this; the strategy did not go well overall); and (2) TRUMP gets swept on the open issues still to be decided in the courts, then they'll be able to sustain the "conviction" in the NY state case, and maybe even impose a sentence in 2028 (this will almost certainly be non-custodial, and any attempt at a custodial sentence will cause me to revise my betting odds of TRUMP getting the conviction tossed wholesale in the courts up to >90%).
But yeah man, libs' little fantasy of locking up their political enemy is Over. Not 95% over. 100% over.

georgia appellate court will kick fani of case and then "council of das" or whatever will dismiss
new York is supposed to sentence him in a couple of weeks. could just give him unsupervised probation and be done with it, but let's see how the resistance goes!

my prediction is that the appellate courts in NY will make short work of the civil and criminal matters there. the oral argument on the civil fraud was a polite bloodbath for the state of NY. the judges were like, "$300 million fraud when no one was defrauded, the banks showed that they made money, the banks made their own lending decision?"
as for the federal matters, there is a DOJ policy not to prosecute crimes against sitting POTUSes. we'll see.
