This is fair. I'm a mid level manager making almost 300K at FANG-ish. I told some people their work wasn't good and they ran to my bosses. They didn't say I was wrong, they just said the way I communicated was abrasive. So yeah I'm getting demoted.

Hahaha, how do you work in a large corporate environment and think that you should ever give an honest negative appraisal of internal work product? If it's so bad that you can't use it, you either fix it yourself, give it to a competent underling under the guise of giving him something to do or fixing up something around the edges (tell him in confidence that it needs a complete overhaul), or bring in a consultant. Criticism is reserved for external parties or someone that a superior has already told you they intend to fire or bring down. Never delivered directly in an effort to improve actual performance, but always indirectly for internal political reasons. C'mon man!
