Just quit; quit with help from AA; go to rehab and choose to do AA or not do AA (in other words the only options are cold turkey or AA and rehab just helps you get started on that.). What are some other methods you’ve seen where the person actually stays sober for five years or more?
I’ve never seen long term sobriety achieved through drugs alone. |

The alcoholic gets a DWI and continues to drink, even when they don’t want to. There are lots of alcoholics with five or more DWIs - they cannot stop themselves.
The heavy drinker can start up again and then quit again. |
