Left the house hoping for something, anything, to feel different today. Walked past the usual scenes: tents multiplying under the overpass, someone arguing with a parking meter, and a broken Lime bike tossed into a bush. Seattle thriving.
Bought a sad little sandwich from a corner shop. Sat on a damp bench to eat, only to have a crow swoop down and snatch it right out of my hand. I didn’t even flinch. Just watched as it flew off with my $12 turkey and avocado, thinking, “Take it, friend. It’s yours now.”
Walked back home empty-handed, drenched in drizzle. Saw my neighbor sweeping water off their stoop and nodded at them. They didn’t nod back.
Collapsed onto my couch, stared at the ceiling, and whispered, “Yes, friend. This is fine.”
