SEC teams are exhausted during the playoffs after playing other SEC teams all season. B1G teams are basically fresh and ready to go in comparison.

The answers are pretty specific and time limited:

1) Carson Beck - dude is objectively terrible and well below the level of other top 15 program QBs. If I ranked them I would probably put him 12/15 at the highest. Georgia had to pivot to a guy who was always supposed to be a depth retention in their QB room and backup. This had negative effects on portal and high school recruiting that hampered the entire roster.

2) Brian Kelly - had an all everything QB in 2023 and a super elite WR and botched that season. He was himself a huge recruiting albatross and just an awful fit at LSU/in the SEC. It was as if Hillary Clinton coached college football. Negative rizz that squandered a couple A- rosters after 2023 that had plenty of talent for a good coach to contend for CFP. Lane will have them back in the mix for natties by 2028 if not sooner.

3) Jimbo Fisher - like a 10x version of Kelly. Had the best roster talent in CFB 3 years ago and completely squandered it and got himself fired. Now that the Aggies have settled for Elko they will revert to their normal second/third class 8-9 win standard on the field and in recruiting instead of stealing elite recruits from real programs only to fail to develop them and watch them leave two years later.

4) Sark’s wife, who went full birdbrain before the 2024 season and filed for divorce, only to realize she was knocked up, then reconciling with him during that season. Texas’ CFP run that year plus their complete bedshitting in the portal last year left them with a preposterously incompetent OL in Manning’s first year as their starter, and was allegedly a product of Sark being very distracted and overwhelmed and Texas’ staff being biased toward retaining their backups and overly focused on high school recruiting.

All of that plus the disruption and defections from Saban leaving Bama have created a temporary vacuum at the top of the conference. I bet it’s over this year but I’m sure it’s over by 2027. SEC high school recruiting is still dominant and as they all figure out the portal (see eg Texas’ #1 portal class right now) they will be back to kick the shit out of the B1G just as Cignetti burns through all his JMU guys and Michigan collapses. Poor, stupid Ryan Day will be returned to his rightful role as annual SEC punching bag.

Odd case that SEC “dominance” ended as soon as 1. All schools could openly pay players, 2. ESPN could no longer ensure 50-100% of the teams in the Playoff or BCS title game were from the SEC every year.

Because the SEC keeps getting shafted by not having enough teams allowed in the playoff. They only received 5 spots this year.

In all fairness OSU had 2 losses and didn’t even win their conference. They just got hot in a post-season tournament and aren’t a real champion. But yeah what Michigan and Indiana did is impressive.

Agreed, and yet, while it’s the most SEC homer thing to say it’s also true that both would’ve gotten wrecked by 2022 UGA let alone 2019 LSU.
