About 2 weeks ago you could get the 14600k for $150 with Battlefield 6 included. Then, all of a sudden, they cost $165 and no game was included. That's when I pulled the trigger. A week later they are well north of $209.

There's a reason. The 12th gens are crazy too. I paid $109 for a 12600 and now the cheapest you can find them on ebay is like $380. This happened in the space of about 2 weeks. I think I got the last i5-12600 at el cheapo prices. The 12600k is much cheaper and much easier to find than the non-k, despite being a "better" chip, but it's still well north of $200 now

I don’t know shit about processors nowadays. I miss the days when more MHz clock speed meant better processor

It still does, that's part of the reason these are flying off the shelf. The 14600k boosts to 5.2ghz and single-threaded performance is nuts. The e-cores do 4Ghz and draw about 15W at idle. One thing people are starting to notice about AMD CPUs is that they have high idle power consumption compared to Intel, so that puts them at a disadvantage in any server build on consumer hardware

EDIT when I stress test this thing it does all p-cores at 4.9Ghz. Cinebench R23 scores tell the whole story. 14900k and 13900k still dominate the charts.

Ok that seems technically very powerful but the last time I paid attention to processors I had the impression that I-3 was for poors, I-5 was in the middle but kind of shitty for games I assumed, and I-7 was the gentleman’s choice for speech recognition, OCR, video editing and other homosexual activities (I had been successfully pressured to give up gaming at that point in history)

That distinction became irrelevant with 12th Gen, which is why Intel no longer uses it. I5 used to mean 4 cores/8 threads, but the i5-14600k is giving you 14 cores and 20 threads.

Unngh, that's actually a "good" price right now, but delivery takes 8-10 days.
