I got into a more serious relationship with a chick I met off a dating app... We ended up having a bunch of mutual friends in common and went from there so I haven't been on SA in ages... I also started doing great on the apps (this takes a bit of time as the algo ranks you and can be frustrating/discouraging at first so be patient), so I got off SA completely.
However, for your situation I think it's fine, just use a google voice burner number and ideally don't take them to where you live until you've hooked up with them at least once and aren't getting any sketchy or crazy vibes. I only say that because you have kids. I met up with plenty of chicks straight at my house straight away, including late at night and it was fine but if I had kids I wouldn't do that.
