W&L too weird to be on the list. Hopkins and Rice aren’t really Southern. No one really wants to go to Davidson. Richmond is essentially Tulane in a worse city. There has never been anyone who can say with a straight face that they went to Miami for prestige or academics or anything other than fuckin’.

Also, Vandy historically has been SPS at sports up until the past few years, whereas Duke has an elite basketball program. And Durham has gentrified like crazy over the last 10-15 years. It's actually pretty bougie nowadays. (Although I will grant you that Nashville is still better.)

Bear in mind that when a university *genuinely* does not give a fuck about a given stat, both front-end management of the stat and back-end reporting can suffer. It'd be like if you asked me what percent of my civil contingency cases yielded *some* money; that's such a dumb metric that I'd spit you out something like 99%, or maybe 50%; who knows or cares.
