My big 3 are Costco’s, H-E-B, and Ace Hardware with multiple visits.
I also went to Kroger’s and Home Depot.
And I bought a pair of shoes at a sporting goods store called Academy.
I checked receipts and I have not been to a Target or Wal-Mart all year.
I never went to a shopping mall.
A receipt or two from the liquor store.
This is only remarkable because I remember when I was a kid I would go to all kinds of retail stores all the time. Buying stuff was part of American culture. Now it’s just not.
I used to like going to H-E-B but now it’s just depressing. They have the most depressing beef you’ve ever seen right now. Options dwindling. BIGGROCERY is contracting. Quality of life is declining. More money than ever before and what can it be spent on? Well, it can be spent, but what does it actually buy?
It’s sad and depressing and every day feels like we are marching farther away from the life we had when we were kids when retail was exciting and foods tasted good and there was a glimmer of hope still left in the great American experiment.
