Wife and I decided to run off to Vegas on a lark last week. I tabulated the damage.

Sunday-Tuesday we booked a room for $20 a night plus resort fee. Elevator stopped working for a bit, the safe was broken and they didn't fix it, and they didn't clean our room when we asked so I got the resort fee waived.

Tuesday-Thursday we booked a room for $15 a night plus resort fee. The sink backed up with foul smelling water so we got a room upgrade, and maintenance had to come up to get the hot water running in the replacement room, so I got the resort fee waived.

Thursday-Friday we booked a room for $20 a night plus resort fee. The pool was closed so we got the resort fee waived.

Great goysperience overall. Some of the rooms are pretty old and the lobbies still reek of smoke but you can mostly avoid it once you're checked in. Can't wait to take the kid here so he/she can appreciate the little proletarian luxuries of life.

We stayed at a 'newly refreshed' suite at West Tower with the laminate flooring. It was pleasant, no smells or anything. It was definitely the most boring of the three (the Rio and Luxor were the others). Parking was way better than the Luxor but not as good as the Rio.

Oh yeah, I was asleep but my wife tells me we could hear the neighbors in the adjoining room all night. Just basically no soundproofing.

We actually, no bullshit, had sex for the first time since she got pregnant on Tuesday night. She just hopped on me at 2 in the morning and drained my balls, which knocked me right back out. I don't think it was the deals though.

No, are you kidding me? You can do a lot with $200. Plus the rooms were actually pretty nice, just old. You get what you pay for, but there's very little marginal value to be gained. Plus, 90+200≈300 would have been $60 a night, which would already be less than what I would have paid with resort fees.

I'd rather (a) spend fewer nights in Vegas at more money per night to avoid $15/night hotels where the sink backs up in room 1 and room 2 has no hot water or (b) just stay home.

That was the Rio. Apparently the recirculators are broken so you have to singlehandedly clear the pipes for the entire block.

Anyway, these were pretty minor inconveniences.

What is this insanity? Who wants to go to Vegas for a whole week? Why did you switch hotels twice?

Out the TTT hotels you picked.

My wife and I wanted to drive down for a couple of days for fun but we decided to lengthen our stay so we could do more stuff (the Sphere, Ivanpah, Hoover Dam, Trump Tower and a couple of other cool hotels, Meowcat, Penn & Teller, Goodsprings) then finally departing in the day to get the solar arrays and Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.

We switched hotels every time we booked to get more fun hotel experiences. In retrospect, this strategy also lets you maximize resort fee waivers and probably saved us hundreds.

Luxor, Rio, Circus Circus.

There is no way constantly switching hotels is optimal for anything

You'd have huge gaps between checking out and the new room being ready, and double paying on parking and other bs resort fees

We had very time consuming things to do during the day. We're used to switching hotels anyway because we usually do road trips. I haven't really had trouble getting early check-in in the past and I didn't have to use it.

No parking fees, and both parking fees and resort fees are per-night.

How was Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge? Did you hike or just drive around? Very beautiful landscape out there.

I stayed at the Luxor once, when I was a junior associate. I went to a conference in Vegas with a few others from my firm. The senior associate organizing it picked the Luxor for us as the best in-budget option. We didn't even stay in the pyramid. We were in some tower way off in the back. The partners stayed at the Four Seasons in Mandalay Bay.

Absolutely beautiful like the rest of the Sierras, I will share pics when I can transfer them.

We got pretty lucky at the Luxor because some guy that owned a timeshare in it or something was renting it out and we got a free upgrade to his suite. We got a room in the corner of the pyramid, hot tub, etc. Not bad for the price! Sorry your firm cheaped out on you so hard.

stayed at Luxor one night while driving through Vegas on a road trip.

wasn't fancy, but at least clean.

the worst part was the AC couldn't quite keep up with the summer sun and heat, so by 9am the room got pretty warm and couldn't sleep in.

Used to go to Vegas several times a year mainly for work but would occasionally go with the wife and we would usually stay at either Wynn/Encore or the Aria. Place was already in steep decline pre-covid but after my last trip in 2022 I said never again and haven't been back and am happy to avoid it permanently.

It's kind of left-behind, but I do like it. Just a place to fuck around and do whatever you want for a bit, really cheap.
