They don't cultivate interests or relationships and thus depend on being a lawyer for their identity and to give their days meaning or purpose.
Were they to stop working entirely, what would they do? There's only so many lunches you can have and places to travel. Their children are grown and no one else needs them or has any reason to interact with them. Working gives them purpose, and I think everyone needs that.
It's a reminder for me to pursue interests outside of work so that I don't find myself putting on a suit and going into an office in my 70s. |
