I just ran around and beat up on little guys. Found same cave (has some doors that won't open, and a flame room trap that I was too slow to run to safety) and went into it over and over to beat the little goblin fuckers in there to level up. I leveled up strength like three times.

I ended up doing it accidentally for part of the game because I didn't know that the area above the Dectus Lift was actually a lower intended level than northeast Caelid. I assumed the Lift was the game's midpoint and would have a huge difficulty spike when I went up. Nope, everything way weaker than the areas I had already cleared and nothing posed any threat to me. Playing through that lengthy chunk until I finally reached somewhere appropriate for my level again was boring as fuck.

Ok the summon thing is actually tricky. You can only do it in areas the game tags as dangerous and boss fights. You can tell when you're in the former because a little blue symbol shows up on the HUD that looks like a monolith or a tombstone with writing on it. Alternatively, you might not hafe enough mana. Just assign it to one of your pouch slots and play around, it helps a lot with early game. (Not necessarily for damage, but having target dummies running around makes bosses much easier.)

I somehow managed to get the horse summons into a slot with Y + d-pad but I couldn't get it to my main d pad selection. They do a shitty job explaining this stuff.

the dragon is an immediate boost. The bridge fight is decent now but apparently upon release was insane before they patched it. Currently the boulder is good for not really fighting. There's also one that apparently gives 18k each reset if you have a crossbow (you should a guy down below and he runs of a ledge, then you reset)

You want to hit enemies with this as you are galloping last them at full speed. Sitting next to them and trying to do multiple light attacks only works on weak enemies in small numbers. Anything dangerous you want to do these charged heavy attack strafing runs.

Mounted enemies, the easiest way to reliably hit them is to let them chase you, charge your attack, and then turn around and nail them with it. Trying to chase them down and flailing after them doesn't work nearly as well.
