Adding to the rat race, if you get AA-blocked from tier 1/2 colleges and attend a bigger state school instead, usually your only path into prestige jobs is through highly competitive pre-professional clubs. If you don’t get into them you’re basically fucked.

On the topic of grind culture and the Asianification of America: something that has gone critically underanalyzed is the increasing predominance of 'pre-professional' clubs/societies in prestige universities that basically feed directly into top-tier careers (usually finance).
