What would do you think he should have done in his career?
He's not a talent like Will Ferrell or Jack Black that can carry a movie by himself. I'm not swapping him out for most leading men in romantic comedies.
He worked a long time. Ironically i thought he could've been the lead in a sitcom like How I Met Your Mother - but turns out he actually turned that down.

Not true - he was also a lead in the following movies
Saving Silverman and Anything Else (Woody Allen movie), and My Best Friend's Girl - which were pretty big movies in terms of marketing.
And he got 3 more American Pie movies. Plus like 5 more indy movies.
He's been given like 8 pretty good shots (and like a dozen more supporting roles), and he always delivers like a B performance - but people don't want to put up $25 million for a B performer.
Contrast that with Sean William Scott - who jumped off the screen in a supporting role in the movies - especially the sequels - and has gotten plenty of work because he's been an A performer as a lead. There's a reason there's more Stifler in each American Pie movie.
