Or they might not be. The Fermi Paradox resolution theory I am starting to favor more and more is the Great Filter: The idea that we haven't been contacted because civilizations all eventually run into some barrier that they can't surmount before they reach the point where they can travel the stars and visit other civilizations like our own.
One candidate for that filter is... billionaires. Having billionaires, i.e. extreme individual wealth concentration, is an objectively inefficient way to distribute resources in a civilization. Consider the wars that have been waged (or ARE being waged right now) for little more than the ego of some high status individual who had managed to attain obscene levels of wealth and/or power. Imagine what our civilization could have achieved, where we would be right now, without having spent all those lives and resources waging and then recovering from those wars. Imagine the incalculable human potential going to waste in places where people are starving to death or dying of disease or war because the wealthiest among us want a tax break more than they want to deal with those collective issues that might better us all instead of just themselves.
We are quite likely on the road to either climate-change-induced civilizational collapse (or extinction) or perhaps an AI apocalypse... all because addressing those issues would be less profitable in the short term for billionaires than ignoring them.

Lets stay optimistic, a species smart enough to travel that far and develop an infrastructure for war that would pose us any danger is probably also more pieceful than us. What would they even want from us? They certainly will not need any of our natural resources like oil. Also there is plenty of everything else we have in other solar systems. Why would they want to fight us?
The argument is based on the fact that we have not detected anyone so far. But where is any evolutionary advantage? What evolutionary advantage would a species have that travels around to destroy other species as compared to just colonizing the vast galaxy around it?
