Something else I think we will see is a reallocation of salaries across companies. In part because technology will allow for much smaller admin headcount, but also because people doing actual work are the ones creating all the actual, non-performative value.
Much ink has been spilled about skilled labor shortages. The WSJ had an article a little while back about how top level technicians at auto repair shops can make good money, but it takes a decade to reach that level. But the "good money" described is like $90,000 a year. Meanwhile some fraud sending "slacks" and talking about output from a handful of SaaS programs over Zoom (while being recorded to train AI) makes $120k and works 10% as much as the person who actually fixes things that we use in the real world.
This will change.
