fun fact: if you had a really old tv, like a 13 channel dial one, the picture would bounce up and down when playing snes games and basically be unusable.

I knew one kid who had it. Dad was a CEO of a public company you've heard of. I stayed at his house one week and spent a lot of time with it. However you didn't need to be filthy rich to purchase it. It was $150 off the shelf if I recall. Mostly it was a space issue. It took up a good part of a room. That was sort of my mom's issue with it. She said the box was too large.
$150 --> $30,000 would have been wild

Final Fantasy 1 after being super hyped by the Nintendo power strategy guide then being frustrated because I didn’t understand the concept of having to equip weapons. I had only ever played dragon warrior which just used whatever sword you currently had.

no it doesn't. original dragon warrior you only could have one weapon and would sell or discard the one you had when you got a new one. there was no additional step to "equip" the weapon you currently had.
