WaPo lags a decade behind xoxo.

"The real problem is that the Affordable Care Act was never actually affordable. President Barack Obama’s signature achievement allowed people to buy insurance on marketplaces with subsidies based on their income. The architects of the program assumed that risk pools would be bigger than they turned out to be. As a result, policies cost more than expected."
also, but with even more subsidies and taxes it might still yet work!

It is very telling that Obama was probably are most serious, solution orientated president of the 20th century.
You look at past presidents who created the national park system, social security, built the interstate highways, etc.
And Obama's crowning achievement was to fix healthcare by "let's tax rich people a little more and then give the money to poor people to buy healthcare."
You could literally assign a group of high school kids an end of semester project to come up with 10 ways to fix America's healthcare system and they'd probably have more impactful solutions.
