iraq, katrina, and the online poker ban. the poker ban had a weird and forgotten role in that whole election. basically, montana's GOP senator conrad burns was one of its more prominent supporters, as a favor to his congressional buddy jim leach of iowa (the same leach from the gramm leach bliley act).

jon tester hit him on that issue, since montana was still a bit libertarian-leaning back then, and narrowly won the election. probably on the strength of that one specific narrow issue.

i lolled at “online poker ban” being compared to the previous two issues, but you did a good job tying it in there.

most people were hip to the fact the iraq war was needless kike bullshit that had nothing to do with 9/11 by then.

this is also why Obongo leapfrogged HER to get the 2008 nomination.

Basically it was the effect of Bush Derangement Syndrome. He's the guy for whom Charles Krauthammer coined the term. The rush of 9/11 had worn off and it was back to polishitting as usual.

It wasn't Derangement. people are annoyed when they get openly lied to. It pissed them off during COVID and it pissed them off when Bush told the american people that we went to iraq bc of WMDs. People prefer what Trump does where he says we're going to get the oil.

there were plenty of reasons to dislike bush, but libs, as is their wont, went into histrionics about how he was simultaneously evil incarnate and the world’s dumbest person, whereas he was really a fair representation of uniparty consensus at the time.

yes, wars that go on too long are unpopular. but the initial resolution passed overwhelmingly and the winddown was intricate enough that it lasted through most of obama’s first term.
