They didn’t tell us about the fact that there were armed violent insurgents that coordinated attacks on police stations and basij before there was any violent response from The government. If someone wants to say “all violence against the Islamic regimes security forces is legitimate” then fine, you can take that kind of extreme position, but at least be honest instead of framing it as 40k innocent people being gunned down just for peacefully protesting.
That said, the Iranian government was obviously incompetent in managing the situation and thousands of innocent people died in the crossfire during this failed violent revolution attempt. Many people didn’t know what they were getting into when they took to the streets and died for no good reason. Others were so radicalized or foolish that they believed it was time to start gunning down every police or government security official they encountered. |

There’s a reason why these protests in January were planned at night instead of during the day.
I have no doubt MANY unarmed innocent protestors were tragically killed in the crossfire. I think the Iranian government was at first caught off guard by how coordinated and violent this protest was because there were several days of initially peaceful protest due to the dire state of the economy before The regime change insurgency of January 8 and 9 |
