During a six hour firefight, the HIG managed to burn a vehicle X-ray machine. For hours, the burning radioactive smoke drifted across my platoon - and there was literally nothing we could do about it. You try reporting it to the PA who is on the fire base with you and he just gives you the, “ah, OK. I’ll make a note on your file” which means absolutely nothing.
Someone in the VA finally acknowledged that military is constantly exposed to these bizarre exogenous chemicals, so they made it really easy to make a claim, but it’s still fucked up. You get compensated for bullshit while the serious issues that attract a lot of medical attention get closely monitored. They’re kind of paying you to go away. |
