I actually enjoyed the first half or so. Thought they did a good job of building up some of the side characters (bouncer dude, white whore, drunk musician bro, voodoo woman, etc). Interesting take on the vampires being woke and lib after all, etc. I liked the old south jim crow era setting. Kinda like how they tied the main character to Buddy Guy in a weird way.
However, once things went off the rails once the "vampire fight" started, which was no different than most shitty vampire movies. Oh wow, some vampires attacked, stab them with a stake, etc
And I get it, "killing the KKK" is cathartic and awesome to libs, I get it, but that KKK scene at the end felt very tacked on and unnecessary - like you meet the "Hogwood" guy in the beginning, then they slip in one line from the vampire warning him that the KKK are coming the next day (and I almost missed that line), then there is this huge Rambo style action scene KKK shootout that seemed to come out of no where? Like zero buildup - none.
Overall, B-/C+ Film for me. I guess glad I can say I watched it but would never watch again. How did this shit get so many oscar noms?
