There are a few decent places here and there, but 95% of it is either a dindu thunderdome or a methhead thunderdome. xoxo loves to shit on blacks, but rural Southern whites are no better. And the few livable places in the South are expensive, so they are not relevant to this thread.
As I said, if you don't mind living around blacks and methheads, there are plenty of places where you can get nice houses for fairly cheap. But your kids will be going to school with blacks and methheads. |

and expensive is relative. if your coming from the coasts then everywhere in the south is a bargain. a nice white town in the south is still the best cost/quality of life in the US |

I'm well aware that Mountain Brook exists, but the median home price is around $900k. That's not even particularly affordable compared to CA, much less a place like Pittsburgh.
And once you get anywhere outside of major cities/suburbs, it is pretty much a methhead thunderdome. There are a few exceptions here and there (mainly some tourist towns), but in general the rural South is not a place to raise a family. |

Insular for California but ljl at the notion of that if you grew up in Cincinnati or somehwere like that where no one ever moves to. Big military presence and some pleasant scum/proleness so it’s not all tech and finance like the Bay Area. 2. UMC suburbs of Cleveland and Pittsburgh. (There may be some other cities to make this list.) It’s as close to the 80s/90s that you’ll find and you don’t have to pay $3m for a house just to not send your kid to violent schools that are not all that different from juvie in the 1980s. Private schools, country clubs, cottages, boat dock, etc. are all reasonably priced compared to the coasts where private schools are $60K now. 3. Chicago. NYC experience for Midwesterners for 40-60% of the price. Condos there are nearly free if you’ve lived on the coasts. *All* the smart kids from your Grand Rapids, etc. high school move there for at least a few years. You can have a college life until your 30s and people start having kids and/or moving home |
