Reinforcement learning works as long as you have access to a simulator or game environment to use to provide dense coverage of the environment space. You can then generate billions of samples from the environment and then train a neural network to output actions that are likely to be good. The problem for robotics is that it’s not feasible to do this IRL. Video generative models allow the same sort of training at scale in a simulation, so things like humanoid robots, drones or self driving cars can be trained virtually and then deployed with small amounts of IRL fine tuning.
