You can sign up for an exchange that follows know your customer laws and then cash out to your bank account

Or you can use a bitcoin atm and cash out anonymously for a highish fee, they are all over the place and monitored by feds

But its hugely complicated and inefficient & solves a problem that never existed

crypto is trying to evolve to the point that people forgo fiat altogether and start accepting digital money. everywhere. globalist banksters understand that once a critical mass of people realizes that central banks, credit card companies, etc. are all fucking them every day when its possible to bypass fiat altogether, you will actually one day buy your pizza with USDC, your lamborghini with bitcoin, etc., and fiat could very well collapse altogether. the most ironic thing from such a development would be "USDC" becoming "fiat" and paper money becomes literal toilet paper

central banks know more people are waking up to this endgame, which is why guys like allaire are trying to make moves now to secure their spot during this transition period

Yes, the blockchain technology being deployed today to effect instantaneous transactions for complicated products with the ability to use metadata to customized smart contracts to make them self-executing was FULLY FUNCTIONAL in the 1970s.

Yes, the blockchain technology being deployed today to effect instantaneous transactions for complicated products with the ability to use metadata to customized smart contracts to make them self-executing was FULLY FUNCTIONAL in the 1970s.

blockchain is a method of maintaining data robustly and often publicly in a way it cannot be tampered with

with respect to cryptocurrencies, it's used to maintain a public ledger of transactions, so anyone can at any point prove they have X amount of currency, and everyone can verify the transaction history that proves it

with more work on smart contracts (contracts that are expressible with perfect precision using logic, programming, or math—same thing, different appearance), it will wipe out the entire escrow sector of the economy

it could also be used to reduce counterfeiting because you could have a UID identified with a product that anyone with access to the internet (i.e., potential buyer) could at the point of sale verify the product is legit and not counterfeit, and this includes verifying even a one dollar bill is not counterfeit

probably also would provide easy and secure online voting, meaning insane $ saved by not having to run physical polling stations or drive to the polls or anything, and no rapetiles with guns at the polls scaring away minorities, oh what's that you hate crypto now?

Nah the blockchain and its "censorship resistance" and decentralization is the big development. It paves the way for doing all your banking without actual banks and actual ownership of digital assets. The world is getting more online and "the metaverse" will be huge. Your kids will probably spend more time in VR worlds fretting about owning a spaceship or gun that is unique and expensive. The blockchains will be the backbone of all this.

But yeah you're right that 95%+ of tokens are ponzis and will be worthless

It seems like the entire argument is "it's a scam because miners sell newly mined btc, for which they paid nothing, in exchange for fiat creating a trade deficiency."

Putting aside anyone's views on utility, how is this different than the gold or other commodities markets? Gold miner uses physical labor to dig up chunks of gold and then sells them into the market.

Unless there's something I'm missing here, I don't see how the markets are any different based on the author's focus on bitcoin mining, and i don't think anyone would use this feature of the gold market to claim that gold is a scam.

he's wrong that btc miners pay nothing because they pay a shit load in hardware and electricity. the real difference is that commodities are limited and have actual utility, so they will always have some value. crypto's value is almost entirely psychological, and the only thing it has going for it - transferability/money laundering - can be shut down any minute.

The supply of bitcoin is limited too. Probably more so than gold since we know right now the max # of btc that will ever be in circulation.

Utility is a different argument and doesn't require the type of market analysis in the blurb, hence the preface in my post.

i wouldn't disagree with this. focusing on just this element it's the in real time creation of a new marketplace for equities. being able to buy into companies is a good thing.

is it volatile and is a lot of the pricing preposterous? yes. but with free market forces you eventually reach an equilibrium between price and actual value.

go on, the floor is yours. convince me. i havent read the article you sent, but it's open in a tab and i will get to it. i have to admit i'm a little surprised that this is your position.

there is one thing to say BTC to 0. there are some respectable voices who say this. it is another to say the whole defi space has no value and is a ponzi scheme.

Why don't you explain what problem defi fixes, why it would be widely adopted when it is catastrophically expensive (energy costs), how the constant need for new investors to counteract the negative sum effects will continue in perpetuity, and how they will ever solve the oracle problem inherent in "smart contracts"

it lowers the barriers of entry and helps to automate the middle man.

w.r.t to expense to it that is quite literally being answered by side chains, roll ups, etc. going from 15trx/sec to 150k, for example.

the constant need for new investors is simply inherent in any new space and part of growth for any space. is this one that exists into perpetuity? your guess is as good as mine. tradfi has the same problem if it's a problem at all. that's growth. tradfi doesn't need new investors yet i keep getting spammed by various vendors on every advertising medium?

your oracle question actually answers itself. new ways of getting information that are chain agnostic are being implemented and continue to be developed.

whales dominate new spaces because it costs a lot to compete against them. it doesn't cost anything to compete against bitcoin.
