Mass Shooting Victims Visited by TCI Leaders as Police Launch Manhunt for Gunmen

The political directorate and the police high command visited the gunshot victims of Sunday morning’s mass shooting at the Island Hookah Cigar Lounge, an attack that left three people dead and at least nine others wounded.

Her Excellency Acting Governor Anya Williams, Premier Hon. Washington Misick, Deputy Premier Hon. Jamell Robinson, and Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey visited the injured victims at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre, where they were briefed by hospital CEO Dr. Denise Braithwaite-Tennant. At least nine people were treated for gunshot wounds; two have been airlifted overseas for advanced care.

Earlier in the day, the government held a press conference at Police Headquarters in Providenciales, where the Commissioner provided chilling details of the early-morning massacre and pledged relentless pursuit of justice.

Commissioner Bailey said officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Leeward Highway establishment around 2:57 a.m.

“Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and rendered aid to multiple victims,” he said. “Unfortunately, three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Ten others sustained injuries.”

He confirmed that the police are actively investigating the motive but suspect gang activity may be involved.

“We believe there may have been at least four shooters using high-powered weapons,” the Commissioner said.

CCTV footage is being reviewed, and a $10,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the shooters’ arrest, along with a separate $10,000 bounty for the country’s most wanted man, Andral Percival.

“This deeply disturbing event has shaken families and the wider communities,” Bailey said. “Our duty is to stand in unwavering solidarity with victims and ensure justice is served.”

Hospital on Lockdown

Acting Governor Williams confirmed that the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre remains on lockdown for security reasons.

“Nine persons received gunshot wounds. One has been discharged. Two have been airlifted overseas. Four others are still being assessed,” she said.

She thanked the hospital staff for their swift response and said emergency services remain operational for non-life-threatening cases through the Primary Health Care Department.

Williams also disclosed that she chaired an emergency meeting of the National Security Council with the Premier earlier in the day, and has alerted the UK Foreign Office and National Crime Agency.

“We are taking these matters very seriously,” she said. “We continue to work closely with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and welcome the support of the Jamaican Police officers who remain on island.”

Premier Urges Calm

Premier Misick condemned the attack as “alien to the lifestyle of the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

“My government is fully behind the police. We must do everything we can to stem this violence,” he said, emphasizing the government’s ongoing investments in security and policing. He revealed plans to set up a new police station in the Blue Hills community and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to recruit 75 new officers, as budgeted earlier this year.

“This is not a situation we should accept,” Misick declared. “And we will not.”

Manhunt Underway

While the motive remains unclear, Commissioner Bailey confirmed that the evidence so far suggests the use of high-powered weapons in what may be an intra- or inter-gang conflict intended to incite fear.

Bailey promised heightened police visibility and operations across the island, supported by border forces and the TCI Regiment.

“This incident is an abnormal one. We believe it was indiscriminately done to create fear,” he said. “We will be targeting individuals and ensuring that law-abiding citizens can move freely and safely.”

Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or call 911.
