The series writ large has Losery liberal arts themes but if you've ever browsed any mgs forum, the fandom skews Scummy and dumb, they like snapping necks and think snake is "badass" and would be just as happy playing Splinter Cell if not moreso. Like you can have someone posting on a forum for the game who's like "that story is crazy haha wow just wow idk what happened anyways...." like they are used to just not knowing wtf is going on irl.
IOW, imho, the series has Cross-Clique Appeal which is why it's been so successful. |
