british had vast maritime access, rich culture of husbandry, immediate proximity for french and even spanish and scandi influence, trade dominance for spices and other ingredients, generally the kind of rich society that would have the time and resources to invest in culinary creativity. should be the japan of the west culinarily. i think they are just a more utilitarian people. |
