I work fulltime 9-6, no weekends, standard w2 benefits, and 14week vacation. My hourly rate is about 400/hr. So I moonlight at another place 5-9pm at 500/hr (since there is 1hour overlap effective rate is 600/hr). I can pick up another job at 500/hr 4pm-12am. So I would do occasional 9am-12am shifts.

But what about eventually just quitting my w2 job and doing 2 of these 1099 jobs: 5-9pm plus 4pm-12am. I can handle the volume and the total rate for 8hr shift would be 750/hr but obviously I pay my fica, no health, no 401k. I could make my own schedule for example work 7on/21off... but these are small private practices that could go bankrupt any day. My w2 job is a rich hospital that has no staff shortage, if I leave they'll quickly hire someone new, and they probably wouldn't let me go parttime either.
